The Guardian listed this woman as one of the world's 100 most Inspirational Women, Jasvinder Sanghera has been fighting forced marriages and honour based abuse - both in her native Britain and internationally. The charity Karma Nirvana she founded in 1993 has helped establish several refuge centers for South Asian men and women fleeing forced marriages. Her commitment stems from personal experience, after running away from home fourteen years old, faced with the prospect of a forced marriage.

An honour killing is a murder of a person accused of brining shame or dishonour to her family. The concept of dishonour is very vague and can include anything from refusing to enter an arranged marriage or being in a relationship which is disapproved by the family to becoming victim of rape. The statistics of honour killing is very dark as many of the case are not reported as homicide. The honour killings happen all over the world.

The book “At 20 it starts to rot” is based on the interviews with young women who tell their stories about honour violence, forced marriages and cultural crocks. Often there is a perception that honour violence is a phenomenon that is connected only to newly arrived refugees. The interviewed girls come from the families who have been living in Sweden for up to 20 years. Most of the children have grown up, or were born, in Sweden.

UN Women in Sweden has developed a game consisting of 64 cards, describing the 29 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and 16 articles of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Violence Against Women (CEDAW). Each card has the Article from the UDHR/CEDAW on one side and the simple interpretation on the other side.
