Honour based violence (HBV) is a form of human rights violation that includes various offences committed in order to protect cultural and religious beliefs when the victim is believed to have shamed the family or the community by breaking their honour code.
While nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) play a crucial role in fighting and ending individual violations of Human Rights by promoting human rights principles, there is still challenging for many people around the world to exercise their human rights. It’s time we realized that human rights are not only words but choices we make every day as human beings. FATIMA project is among those voices, raised on behalf of Human Rights.

FATIMA is a two-year Daphne project which aims to increase the capacity within ethnic minority NGOs relevant for work against Honour Related Violence (HRV) in order to elevate the problem of HRV from individual level to group level.
The project aims to train active individuals from NGOs in UN Declarations on human rights by developing training material based on the European and UN Conventions on Human Rights and the Rights of the Child.

Project will focus on working with 3 target groups: - Ethnic minority NGOs relevant for work against Honour Related Violence (HRV)
- Individuals who are subjected to Honour Related Violence.
- National, regional and local stakeholders.

FATIMA project is coordinated by FOLKUNIVERSITETET Uppsala from Sweden with the participation of partner organizations from four (4) European Countries: Greece, Sweden, Portugal and United Kingdom.

Objectives
The purpose of the project is to increase the capacity within ethnic minority NGOs for carrying out awareness raising and educational campaign for establishing a social dialogue concerning HRV. The capacity building will be achieved by:

Developing professional profile for ethnic minority NGOs and individuals for working against HRV.

Developing training material based on the European and UN Conventions on Human Rights and the Rights of the Child.

Developing guidelines for cross-sectoral co-operation and networking between ethnic minority NGOs and other stakeholders (authorities, schools, police and social welfare / healthcare) concerning HRV.

Train ethnic minority NGOs in fundraising, project management and sustainability regarding work against HRV.

Deliverables

WS0: Management and Coordination of the Project

The overall aim of this work stream is ensure the smooth execution of the project, the correct implementation of the planned actions and the coordination among all beneficiaries, within the budget/time-frame and in effective way.

WS1: Cross-sectional study and awareness-rising activities

The main objective of this WS is to develop an interview questionnaire to carry out a cross-sectional study on immigrant NGOs views and experiences on HRV. Based on the questionnaire result organise awareness rising workshops for immigrant NGOs and stakeholder organizations.

WS2: Development and finalisation of training materials

The objective of this WS is to develop training materials for education and social dialogue carried out by immigrant NGOs among countrymen. The training material will be developed on the basis of Council of Europe conventions for the protection of human rights including women rights, namely European Convention on Human Rights from 1953 (ECHR) and Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence from 2011 (Istanbul Convention). as well as UN Conventions -CEDAW and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

WS3: Implementation of training by immigrant NGOs among countrymen and evaluation

The objective of this WS is to plan, implement and evaluate education and social dialogue which will be carried out based on the elaborated training materials in order to measure the impact on target groups

WS4: Dissemination and exploitation of the project results

The aim of this WS is to broaden the knowledge of the project, its outputs and activities to key stakeholders at national level and across Europe, including immigrant NGOs, local and national authorities, civic sector, policy makers.
